John is a 1983 graduate of DeSmet Jesuit High School and
graduated from the University of Missouri in 1987 with a Bachelor's
Degree in Political Science. John received his Juris Doctorate in 1991
from St. Louis University with honors and has been practicing law in
St. Louis since 1991.
John
is
a partner at the law firm of Armstrong Teasdale, LLP, in the firm's
Real Estate/Public Law and Finance Practice Group. John is a lifelong
resident of west St. Louis County and resides in Town and Country with
his wife Kelly and their three sons, Sam, Josh, and Daniel. They are
active members of Our Lado of the Pillar parish in Creve Coeur.
John was elected as State Representative in 2008. He is
currently chairman of the Special Standing Committee on re-districting
which will be responsible for re-drawing Missouri's Congressional
District boundaries following the 2010 census. He also serves
as the vice-chairman of the House Elections Committee and is a member
of the following committees: Judiciary, Fiscal Review, Local
Government, Job Creation and Economic Development. John was the sponsor
of HB 1764 - also known as "Proposition C" - which was the initiative
that allowed Missourians to voice their opposition to the liberal
national healthcare plan and drew significant national attention.
Proposition C was passed by over 72% of Missouri voters in August.
Prior
to being elected State Representative, John served as the Chairman of
the St. Louis County Board of Election Commissioners (appointed by
Governor Matt Blunt). In this position, he was responsible for
county-wide implementation and modernization of election equipment and
technology mandated by the Help America Vote Act. As part of the
implementation process, he put into place aggressive policies to
replace or retrain senior management and implement a fast track
procurement, selection, and funding review process which saved St.
Louis County nearly $10 million.
John
served as an Alderman for the City of Town and Country from 2003 - 2005
and was president of the Board for the year 2004 - 2005. During late
2004 and early 2005, he served as acting mayor on numerous occasions
requiring, among other things, the oversight of the City's 2005 budget
process. John also served as the Board's lead negotiator on a major
development project after litigation was filed against the City.
